'Blessed Today' shares the testimony of Lewis Base, a man who used to live in poverty and addiction until he prayed one night in absolute despair and Jesus Christ answered his prayers. God changed everything around 180 degrees from addiction, debt, poverty to a successful Christ centric life full of blessings. The goal of this song is to inspire listeners that God is there for them and always able to make change in their lives, even when they think the clouds are too dark or the situation is too filthy. Jesus Christ is here for you!
‘Love One Another’ was a song we originally wrote last year… but little did we know the implications it was going to have on this year. Really, it’s just about a simple command that Jesus gave us – to love one another. It wasn’t a suggestion. Jesus didn’t say that we should try to like each other as best we can. He commanded us to love our enemies. Yes, that’s easier said that done… but it’s not complicated. Jesus reminds us that love never fails, and so we can rest in that and trust in His promises.
‘Terrify The Dark’ is based on one of my favorite scriptures. John 1:5 says, ‘the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.’ That verse gives me a lot of peace right now, because we are living in a dark, chaotic time. People are angry. People are scared. There’s violence. There’s racism. People are screaming at each other. People just don’t know what to do.... It’s awesome to know that with all of these powerful forces of darkness that they all still have to answer to the greatness of one name – the name of Jesus Christ. His word is true. He is always faithful. He is always with us. We don’t have to be afraid! I hope this song encourages you, because we’re living through a pretty difficult time right now. Show More
All around us are tensions and divisiveness of political, spiritual, and social disagreements. Arguments on social media or in person are tearing families and friendships apart, and yet God has asked us to avoid contention. He asks us to love others (even our enemies) and pray for them. Once, when I was praying and feeling so much frustration toward a person, I felt suddenly prompted to pray that I would be able to see that person as God saw them.... I was flooded with so much love and saw that person as a child with limitless potential. It changed my heart and my life. I know God loves each of us, despite our many weaknesses and sins. I have felt the peace that comes through both being forgiven and forgiving others. It doesn’t mean that we need to spend time in toxic or dangerous relationships, but being able to pray that someone will find their way, and having hope for them, because of our Savior, will bring freedom and joy to our hearts and put us on a path toward creating peace on earth. The words for this song were writen by Charles Albert Tindley (1851-1933), a well-known African American Methodist minister of his era, and regarded by many as a founding father of African American gospel music. It's a simple prayer of trust and rest in Jesus Christ - who came not only to stand by us, but for us - the basis for our confidence and hope. I hope that this new composition serves to bring these old and ever-true words to the hearts of those who hear it in a new way at this time.
We weren’t meant to carry our burdens. There is something incredibly powerful about simply letting go and laying them down at the feet of Jesus. This song encourages the listener to run to Him and trust Him with the heavy things in their life.
Everything is telling us that we are divided - racially, culturally, politically. We need to realize that we are actually more alike than we are different. The thing that binds us together is our faith and our common hopes, dreams and plans.
I went through a difficult time a couple of years ago...my faith was weak and I wasn’t relying on God for help, which will cause a lot of mental stress. During this time, I realized he was molding and shaping me into a songwriter and full time artist...something I knew was my purpose from a young age...and I never pursued. I wrote this song the day before I went into the studio to record my first project. I feel like I didn’t even write it...it was totally God given. I’m so glad there are stations picking it up. I feel it’s going to help a lot of people.
I don’t know about you guys, but I can get stuck in the shame game all day long… and it can really take me out. Should’ve done better… could’ve done better…oh, I made such a bad mistake there… I can guilt myself to the point where I stop hearing God’s voice, and I just hear my own. So, that is why we wrote this song....
I am done with being in a shame spiral and I’m ready to move into the freedom that God has. So, I don’t know what it is for you, but if you are ready to move on from whatever has held you back and whatever has made you feel stuck… this is your anthem Show More
'Who Am I' is all about our identity in Jesus. All of us have been through times of life where we don’t feel close to God. We feel lost, burdened and in need of a breakthrough. We lose focus on Him and become overwhelmed by our circumstances. But every time we’re in a place of defeat, Jesus meets us right where we’re at. He pulls us out of the darkness and illuminates the situation. He reminds us of who we really are; that we’re chosen by Him, loved beyond measure and redeemed by what only He could do. We won’t turn back to how we were, we’ve been forever changed by Him.
I had a personal reality check two years ago in a hospital bed where fear overcame my soul to the point of hopelessness and I was blatantly faced with my own mortality. That experience has become a creative springboard for my writing. I want to share that genuine hope. At this time people are facing uncertainty about life, the possibility of death, and are on the verge of losing hope. This song is intended to share the hope of Jesus and to reflect His light into the darkness around us.
I wrote ‘Wake Up Sleeper’ about one of my favorite stories in the Bible – found in Luke – when Jesus interrupts a funeral. A little boy had died, and his widowed mother and a group of people were carrying his body to be buried outside of the town when they encountered Jesus. Now Jesus – as a religious leader – should have turned the other way because touching something dead would make Him unclean. But that didn’t stop Jesus. He walked up to the coffin and told the little boy to wake up. In that moment, Jesus took what everyone considered done, over, and dead and brought a little boy back to life.... That’s just what Jesus does today. I pray this song reminds us all that we were dead in our sins, only Jesus can wake us up. That’s the gospel, and it’s our job to tell the world about a Savior who wakes up sleepers even still today. Show More
During times like these we get so caught up worrying about what is to come, that we forget that Jesus is in control. Cori & Kelly, along with Ben Calhoun, wrote this song as a reminder that sometimes you've gotta leave your worries behind, throw your head back and SING your own personal Victory Song! Set for a June 2020 release and sure to get your blood pumping, 'Victory Song' just may become the new summer anthem as we all struggle to find our 'new normal'.
